EXTINCTION Rebellion has staged a two-week “international rebellion” to call for action on what they are calling a climate crisis.
But who is bankrolling the activists and who founded them? Here's everything you need to know.
Who funds Extinction Rebellion?
The Extinction Rebellion website says it has been raising money from crowdfunding, major donors, NGOs, trusts and foundations.
About 54 per cent comes from online crowdfunding.
Some 35 per cent is from sympathetic trusts and about 11 per cent comes from individual donors.
Most donors are happy to be and all those giving more than £5,000 are.
Others are not.
Although, the group insists on having a policy of financial transparency, they say they do so “without compromising the privacy of individuals”.
Their donation policy explains: "We have a policy of openness, and the names of those who donate over £5,000 are made available unless there is a particular reason for a request for them to be anonymous.
"Donor details won’t be published for smaller personal donations, except in the case of donations through Crowd Fund where the amount and name of the donor is made available via the platform to the extent the donor chooses to share their real name."
Who are the founders?
The group was officially launched on October 21, 2018, by activists from the campaign group Rising Up!
Key figures in Extinction Rebellion include co-founders Gail Bradbrook, a former biophysicist, and Roger Hallam, a former organic farmer.

Extinction Rebellion (also known as “XR”) describes themselves an “international movement that uses non-violent civil disobedience in an attempt to halt mass extinction”.
