The case was revisited after the California Supreme Court found that jurors in the 2002 trial, who noted they did not believe in the death penalty, were dismissed.
Laci's mother, Sharon Rocha, spoke at the trial and said her unborn grandchild would have been 18 years old and Peterson would have been free from child payments by now.
"You didn't want the responsibility of being a father. You're a coward," Rocha said.
"Laci and Conner will always be dead," she added.
