Ukip collapse to a humiliating 2% in devastating poll which sees Jeremy Corbyn get boost after delivering Labour manifesto

Paul Nuttall’s party falls even further back as Labour jump by 8 points - but still find themselves 15% behind Tories

A DEVASTATING new poll puts Ukip on just a humiliating two per cent as Jeremy Corbyn gets a boost following the Labour manifesto launch.

Paul Nuttall’s party has fallen even further behind the other major parties in the latest survey by Ipsos MORI, as they continue to struggle going into the June 8 ballot without Nigel Farage as leader.

But while their vote share has been seen to drift to the Conservatives today’s research, done on behalf of the , sees Labour jump by eight points.

Despite the positive signs in the first phone poll since Mr Corbyn unveiled his hard-left blueprint for Britain, he still finds himself15% behind the Tories.

And Theresa May, who launched her own manifesto this morning in Halifax, is still on course for a landslide victory in next month’s snap election, polling at 49 per cent.

The fieldwork, which was completed last night, sees six in 10 voters say Labour is not ready to govern — including a quarter of Labour supporters.

Mrs May leads almost two to one as the “most capable Prime Minister”, and Gideon Skinner, head of political polling at Ipsos MORI, said: “Labour shouldn’t get too carried away by the rise they see in the polls.

“The focus on their manifesto may have helped them this week, but on many fundamentals such as leadership the public still puts them a long way behind the Conservatives, and their vote is much softer, with one in six of their supporters considering voting for Theresa May’s party.”

Elsewhere in the poll there is further bad news for Tim Farron, as the Liberal Democrats are languishing on just seven per cent.

Their vote share has halved, and is now sitting where it was at the disastrous 2015 election, where the union Coalition party was all but wiped out.

Mr Farron has hoped to hoover up the support of those people who voted Remain in last year’s EU referendum, but a recent survey showed more than two-thirds of people now want Brexit to happen.

His party now faces the prospect of not returning any more than their nine current MPs, despite a concerted effort to win back their former heartlands in the South West.

But the biggest loser from the pollster’s new research is Mr Nuttall’s crisis-hit Ukip, who have now even been overtaken by the Green Party on three per cent.
