TOM Cruise and co are back to saving the world in the teaser trailer for new film The Mummy.

While the full trailer won't reveal itself until Sunday, the team behind the new movie couldn't help but give movie go-ers a glimpse at what's to come in the new flick starring Tom Cruise alongside Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and Courtney B Vance.

Even though the clip is only 15 seconds long, it makes sure is a chock full of action as you see the pyramids of Egypt, and the destruction the awakened Mummy causes as its awakened from its thousand-year-long slumber.

The new film is a reboot of the 90s classic films of the same name - with Tom Cruise taking on the leading man role Brendan Fraser occupied in the original series.

Set in the modern day, a group of paramilitary archaeologists bring an entombed mummy from Egypt to London but it awakens and reveals itself as ancient Queen Ahmanet, whose destiny was taken away from her.

Now the team face a race against time to defeat the Mummy and send her back to her tomb as she unleashed chaos in revenge for her fate.

To add to the intrigue, Russell Crowe will star as Dr Jekyll – making this film the first part of the upcoming Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe.

Alongside The Mummy, Universal will also be making The Invisible Man, starring Johnny Depp in the titular role, Bride of Frankenstein, starring Javier Bardem as the monster, Count Dracula, The Wolf Man and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The group is a reboot of a series of classic films and characters that will interweave within each other to create a whole new realm for movie buffs to enjoy.

Tom has become known for his leading man action movie roles - most recently in the latest instalment of the Jack Reacher franchise, titled Never Go Back.

Speaking ahead of the release of the film, Tom has revealed he endured a staggering 64 takes in order to complete one sequence for the film where a plane crashes and the team are flung through the air.

In order to get the stunt right, the production team took him and his co-stars into an anti-gravity stage at his own request.

The star is known to do his own stunts, and for the latest one, director and writer Alex Kurtzman joked at CinemaCon: "There was a lot of barfing."

The Mummy hits cinemas on June 9.
