A WOMAN has revealed that she saved a whopping £1500, buy building herself a DIY pergola and bar.

With the bank holiday weekend on the horizon, many of us likely have big plans to invite family and friends over for garden parties or Easter egg hunts for the kids.

However, after a long winter of neglect, you may have noticed that your garden is in need of a bit of TLC before you invite anyone over.

And although you may think that giving your backyard a spruce up will cost a bomb, one Facebook user has proved otherwise.

Posting in the group, the savvy woman revealed that she had never done a DIY project before, but decided to give it a go after being given a pricey quote by a professional.

"I’ve made my own pergola after getting a quote I could not afford", she said.

"I’m very happy with what I’ve built, saying it’s the first thing I’ve ever built.

"I still need to do some finishing touches to finish my bar off and get some new cushions, but I’m happy."

Sharing a series of snaps of the project, the woman showed how she transformed some old pallets into a stunning pergola and stylish garden bar.

It has a handy glass roof, so it can still be used in bad weather, and has been decked out with chic garden furniture.

The woman said she spent around £1,000 on the project, meaning that she saved £1,500 on the average cost of having a pergola built, which according to is £2,500.

The post has likely left many people in awe, as it has gone viral, racking up 44,000 likes and 6,100 comments.
