What's included in the service?

  • Fashion and homeware repairs and alterations
  • Dry cleaning
  • Handbag restoration
  • Homeware items include: Duvets, bedding, curtains, and rug cleaning

It comes after a successful trial with Timpson Group-owned Johnsons across five of its branches in July 2024.

Oxford, Liverpool, Cheadle, Milton Keynes and Welwyn were the chosen locations.

The incentive was to encourage shoppers to have their items altered, repaired, cleaned or restored for a small fee, instead of chucking them out and buying replacements.

Extending a garment's life by nine months can reduce its carbon, waste and water footprint by up to 30 per cent, according to

The charity also found that over four in five clothing repairs "displace" new purchases.

John Lewis said the most popular services from its previous trial were minor rip repairs, seam repairs, and trouser alterations.

Prices for minor rip repairs previously started at around £10.95.

Director of services and hospitality Katie Papakonstantinou said: “John Lewis has always been committed to providing a brilliant retail experience for customers, and repair adds another dimension to that.

“The great thing about repair is it works for the old and the new. Whether you need something tailored to fit you better or want to give your mum’s old handbag a new life, we’ve made it easy to restore treasured products.”

Marija Rompani, Director of Ethics & Sustainability, John Lewis Partnership, adds: “We’re still learning about which circular economy models work so it's great when a trial delivers positive results and shows us how we can make it effective at scale.

"Repair is a crucial part of the circular economy and mirrors our commitment to designing items with quality and longevity in mind, as part of our circular strategy.”

It is important to note, the service does not include John Lewis Swindon and Canary Wharf.
