A POSTIE faces the sack after being snapped driving his van down a footpath by a “sad busybody”.

The unnamed postman has been suspended after a local resident videoed him edging down the narrow pedestrian path to deliver some letters.

His van nudges slowly down the empty path with its hazard lights flashing as the postie tries to reach local residents’ front doors.

But John Turner, who filmed the scene on his car dashcam in Wymondham, Norfolk, decided to upload the footage to social media.

He explained that “he didn’t want to get anyone in trouble” but felt it was his public duty to highlight the footage.

And when Post Office chiefs saw the footage on Facebook community page Wymondham Ways, they suspended the postman.

Mr Turner then found himself at the eye of a social media storm as locals argued over whether he was right to drop the postman in it.

Quite Frank said: “The comment "I don't want to get anyone into trouble" is priceless, Mr Turner you have probably lost this poor chap his job!!!

"Not a pedestrian or cyclist in sight and you have condemned him to unemployment.

"If it's not one thing to have ‘casualty reduction cameras’ and police with radar guns watching our every move we have busybodies with ridiculous dash cams just waiting for someone to do something wrong.

"The satisfaction gained in losing someone his/her job must be so rewarding."

While Chris Groves posted: “Let us hope Mr Turner leads a blameless and faultless life. Let us hope Mr Turner is not a frustrated Walter Mitty and frustrated policeman wannabe pointing out all our faults and misjudgements.

"Personally that's a rotten bit of road and that is a long row of house to lug deliveries from one end to the road.”

Bin here all my life added: "Mr Turner, get a life you sad person, the guy could have blocked one side of the road by parking up and doing his delivery, his reward for trying to keep the road clear is to lose his job thanks to you.

But he came in for a torrent of abuse as many locals accused him of being a "busybody" for uploading the footage from his dashcam

“I hope somebody stitches you up one day so that you know how it feels."

But some jumped to Mr Turner’s defence.

Andrina Carvell pointed out "It's a path not a road."

Mr Turner himself said it was the 'most remarkable thing' he had seen since having a dashcam installed a couple of months ago.

He said: "Occasionally it catches boy racers whizzing past. But when I saw that with the orange flashing lights I was quite startled."

"It's quite clear that part of the road is not meant for motor vehicles.

"I don't want to get anyone into trouble, but on the other hand if that were to become standard practice, before you know it you are not going to have a safe place for cyclists and pedestrians.”

Royal Mail spokeswoman Morag Turnbull said: "Royal Mail can confirm that a postman from Wymondham has been precautionary suspended whilst an internal investigation takes place into this matter.

"Royal Mail takes any incident of illegal or dangerous driving seriously and anyone caught doing so will face serious disciplinary measures."
