World’s first robot burger chef cooks better than a human and could destroy millions of McJobs

Fast food machine knocks out 400 patties an hour and NEVER takes a cigarette break

A pile of burgers

The world's first robot-staffed burger bar is expected to open in San Francisco in the coming months, heralding the arrival of an age where the McJob is nothing but a bitter memory.

Momentum Machines has put out job adverts for human managers who will oversee the operation of a mechanical cooking machine which can churn out 400 burgers an hour.

"This location will feature the world-premiere of our proprietary and remarkable new advances in technology that enable the automatic creation of impossibly delicious burgers at prices everyone can afford," the advert said.

As well as the usual "tough, unglamorous and occasionally dirty work of restocking, hauling trash, and tidying up", staff will also need to be smarter than the average burger bar employee.

"We're looking for people open to learning skills including software troubleshooting, market research, and product development research," the firm added.

If you've ever felt sorry for someone who spends their days miserably serving McMeals whilst wearing a shirt which declares they're "lovin' it", then you'll probably think it's smashing that robots will one day replace human burger flippers.

But in the not too distant future, machines which once helped humans do their jobs will end up replacing them.

Would a burger taste as good if you knew humans lost their jobs so you could enjoy it?

“Our device isn’t meant to make employees more efficient,” . “It’s meant to completely obviate [remove] them.”

Some experts fear robots will put about 50% of the workforce on the dole queue, with fast food servers at risk along with everyone from accountants to taxi drivers.

Andy Haldane, chief Economist at the Bank of England, has said the UK will lose 15 million jobs during the robot revolution, with the US losing a whopping 80 million.

Professor Noel Sharkey, a British academic who is an authority of the risks of robots, : “We are rushing headlong into the robotics revolution without consideration for the many unforeseen problems lying around the corner.

"It is time now to step back and think hard about the future of the technology before it sneaks up and bites us when we are least expecting it."

So enjoy your cheap burger now, because if you end up down the job centre when a robot nicks your job, you'll need a lot of ketchup to wash that bad taste out of your mouth.
