Flybe Flight 1274 from Amsterdam to Manchester made an unscheduled arrival at Birmingham Airport following the mid-air drama.
Suhail Ahmed-Qadri, from Manchester, said he and others on board felt "a big shudder" just after the plane took off.
He told the BBC: "We looked out of the window and could see the tyre of the plane had burst.
"We called over one of the cabin crew who couldn't believe it.
"She informed the captain who made an announcement."

The plane then had to circle Birmingham Airport for over an hour to burn fuel before they could land - during which time the runway had to be closed.
Suhail added: "It was a scary experience and I have mixed feelings about it.
"A couple behind me were very upset and were crying and hugging.
"I thought we would make it and that we would be OK."
Once the plane finally landed, the passengers were taken on a bus for the remainder of their journey to Manchester.
A Flybe spokesman apologised to passengers for the inconvenience, and said the decision to redirect the flight was taken "as a precautionary measure, to take into consideration more favourable wind conditions".
The half hour runway closure was one of several problems which has plagued the airport over the bank holiday weekend, causing disgruntled holiday makers to take to Twitter to vent their anger.
Four hour delays at the airport were caused by Monarch airline's computer system crashing, meaning airport staff had to fill out passengers' boarding cards and other details by hand.
Staff shortages involving the handling agent Aviator caused yet more delays, as passengers were forced to wait for up to two hours for their luggage.
One traveller, Mark Lisgo, posted: "still now waiting for my luggage to arrive at the baggage claim nearly 1 hour later! Aviator to blame for this shambles?"
Another passenger, Austin Houghton-Bird, also took to Twitter to complain about the "unacceptable" wait times.
