SHOOTING SPREE MELTDOWN

Nine people injured after lawyer in Nazi uniform goes on gun rampage at US shopping centre when his ‘relationship with his firm went bad’

The man, who had previously threatened roofers with a gun, was shot dead by police after opening fire near a strip mall at 7am

A GUNMAN in a Nazi uniform rampaged in Texas and opened fire at a shopping centre, injuring at least nine people.

The terrifying incident took place at a mall in southwest Houston. The shooter - believed to be a disgruntled lawyer facing issues with his firm - was fired on and killed by cops.

Shots were heard at 7am local time in southwest Houston as he opened fire near a strip mall.

He exchanged gunfire with police before he was killed. His name has not been released by authorities but KRPC reports that the owner of a Porsche found nearby with weapons inside is Houston attorney Nathan Desai, 46.

Police reported he was wearing a Nazi uniform and more Nazi paraphernalia was found at his apartment.

Houston Police said officers are investigating "if issues at his firm led to shooting".

They added that the "suspect vehicle had additional weapons inside".

Eduardo Andrade, 42, was driving to work when two bullets shattered his windscreen and passenger window.

"As I was driving by Law Street I suddenly hard a big explosion," he told . "I covered myself, accelerated and tried to get out of there. I did not know if someone was following me or trying to shoot me."

Witness Lee Williams said he heard at least 50 gunshots over about 40 minutes, adding that the shooter would fire at cars coming near.

Jennifer Molleda and her husband live at the same complex as the shooter - her husband was shot at while he was driving and was taken to hospital to be treated.

Jennifer told The Globe and Mail: "He got out of his car, we hugged, we cried."

The gunman had apparently threatened people in two separate incidences previously - one with a roofer who called police to say he had been threatened with a gun and the other was in emails sent to a man in the complex's office.

The area was closed off and an ABC News reporter reportedly saw bodies on the ground.

Police said on Twitter that the suspected shooter was 'DOA' (dead on arrival) describing the shooting scene as still active but contained.

A bomb squad was called after a suspicious vehicle was found close to the scene.

Footage from the scene showed a bomb disposal robot at the scene, and Houston Police tweeted: "Our bomb squad will be checking suspect's vehicle."

Houston Fire Department has said nine people were taken to hospital with injuries. One was in a critical condition, five are being treated and three were treated and released.

Roads around the scenes remain closed.

The shooting comes days after a shooting at a Washington state mall that left five people dead. On September 17, a 20-year-old man stabbed 10 people at a Minnesota mall before being shot to death by an off-duty police officer.
