Taxi firm Uber working on a Back to the Future-style flying cab
American company reveals sky-high ambitions with vow to transport passengers through the air

UBER is working on incredible Back To The Future-style flying taxi which can transport passengers through the air.
The controversial cab app is working on an experimental aircraft using technology called VTOL, which stands for vertical takeoff and landing.
Jeff Holden, head of products at Uber, wants to “someday offer our customers as many options as possible to move around".
He added: “It could change cities and how we work and live."
However, we might have to wait some time to see the flying taxi, because there are considerable hurdles to overcome to make sure it can zoom through the skies without endangering the lives of passengers and everyone else living in a city.
Uber is on a mission to revolutionise public transport and recently revealed a groundbreaking driverless taxi service that could spell the end of the cabbie.
The revolutionary cab company pulled ahead of its rivals in the car industry and Silicon Valley with its ambitious experiment - a fleet of cars laden with lasers, cameras and other sensors - but no human hands on the wheel.
The web-based ride service let the robot cars loose for the first time on the roads of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, today.
Uber is also developing a self-drive car with Sweden's Volvo that is expected to become the core vehicle of the programme in the near future.
