WE could all soon be zipping around using Buzz Lightyear-style JETPACKS after a successful test flight of this incredible sci-fi vehicle.

In this jaw-dropping footage, pilot David Mayman stuns onlookers by flying over the sea at the heliport alongside the Port of Fontvieille in Monaco.

The Australian smoothly hovered over the sea in the incredible JB-10 and could soon be available to members of the public.

It uses custom-built twin turbo jets which are smaller than turbofans, run at a lower temperature and use less fuel.

For now the high-tech device can only be flown over the water while engineers - aided by the US military - develop a parachute in case of an emergency.

He told : "This flight is the culmination of years of work by Nelson (chief designer Nelson Tyler) and me. But today is just the beginning.

"JetPack Aviation is already working on a personal flying machine that will be so safe and simple to operate, it could be used by average commuters in daily life.

Mayman told  the team at Jetpack Aviation HQ was looking into automatic ballistic parachutes that deploy if the jetpack's engine fails.

But how hard is it to fly?

"I think we could train someone fairly intensively if we had them for a week," he said.

"You pretty quickly get a sense of what feels right and what works and what doesn't work. It's pretty intuitive."
