COPS were forced to use tear gas before fleeing a violent mass brawl outside a takeaway in this shocking clip.

The police bodycam footage shows officers trying to control crowds at a carnage-hit Zam Zam takeaway in Gloucester earlier this year.

But they were forced to retreat and call for backup after bids to calm the chaos failed.

According to police these shocking late-night scenes are a regular occurrence at the fast-food restaurant, whose bid for a late-night license was rejected.

The video was shown to shocked members of Gloucester City Council, who refused to give the takeaway a license to open until 5am on weekends.

Cops claim the chain has “a lack of respect for the law”, with 15 violent incidents taking place in the last 12 months alone.

It was also running outside of its licensed hours. The bodycam footage was filmed at 3:52 am on Sunday July 17, 36 minutes after it was supposed to close.

Officers advised Zam Zam to shut down for the night even though it was only supposed to be open until 3:15am.

Licensing officer PC Mark Mansfield told The Mirror: "This is a mild example of what we sometimes encounter around club closing time in the early hours of the weekend in Eastgate Street – young men and women who are very drunk, abusive and threatening.
"This is one reason why we were opposed to this takeaway being allowed extend its hours.
"Gloucester is an amazing city to work in and visit but sometimes this happens.
"We had to commit many officers to deal with the situation and that takes away from our ability to attend other incidents.
"That's why the work of the licensing team here at Gloucestershire Police is vital. We work hard with businesses throughout the county to try and make sure everyone can enjoy a safe night out and licensing rules are abided by.
"When we make objections to licences and extended opening hours it's for the safeguarding of the public and our officers."
