AN EASYJET flight from London to Spain was forced to divert over fears “severe” turbulence could damage it.

The Airbus A320 jet landed in Malaga rather than Almeria following its departure from Gatwick earlier this morning.

An easyJet spokeswoman confirmed the EZY5163 service was diverted because of "a technical issue".

She said: "The aircraft landed routinely and did not declare an emergency or request an expedited landing.

"Engineers attended the aircraft and it has now continued to Almeria.

"We would like to apologise to all passengers for any inconvenience caused by the diversion and subsequent delay.

"The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strictcompliance with all manufacturers' guidelines."

According to easyJet the flight left Gatwick at 7.20am and landed in Malaga almost three hours later, before continuing to Almeria after around 45 minutes.

The drama came as the cheap flights firm sacked an air hostess for gross misconduct and THEFT after she ate a bacon sandwich "given to her by her manager", an employment tribunal heard.

Over the weekend three footie fans were arrested over claims they disrupted cabin crew on an easyJet flight from Edinburgh.

The trio were met by cops at Berlin airport on Saturday.
