He shared a post on Snapchat just minutes before his death, which showed him and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy looking into a mirror.
Witnesses at the hotel said Liam smashed his laptop and had to be carried back to his room earlier in the day.
Cops found him dead in the hotel's inner courtyard at around 5pm local time (9pm UK time) when they arrived.
Liam was visiting Buenos Aires to update his US visa and see his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan perform at Movistar Arena in the city.
His family previously told The Sun: “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.”
The circumstances surrounding his passing have been shrouded in controversy, with investigations ongoing in Argentina.
Ahead of his funeral, Liam's body was flown home to the UK on November 6, 2024.
His dad Geoff was also on the flight into Heathrow — the body was then transferred to Liam’s home town of Wolverhampton.
Rogelio "Roger" Nores, Payne's former manager and confidant, is under investigation by Argentinian authorities for his alleged involvement in the events leading to Payne's death.
He faces accusations of "abandoning a person followed by death," a charge he vehemently denies.
Nores told The Sun: “I never abandoned Liam, I went to his hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before this happened.
"There were over 15 people at the hotel lobby chatting and joking with him when I left.
"I could have never imagined something like this would happen."
Nores is "not welcome" at Liam's funeral, The Sun understands.

"It's true he and Liam had a bond but he's never been popular when it comes to Liam's wider circle.
