A WALKER has tragically died after reportedly falling from a ridge off a UK mountain in front of horrified members of public

Mountain rescue teams were called to reports of the tragic fall in Snowdonia on 18 May.

An HM Coastguard rescue helicopter was also brought to the scene in a bid to rescue the victim.

Two off duty team members working in Cwm Cneifion who witnessed the event helped assist the winchman and RAF mountain rescue service.

Despite the team's best efforts however, the victim did not survive the fall.

A spokesperson for Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team said: "The team was called out on Sunday morning after a walker was seen to fall from the ridge. Two off duty team members working in Cwm Cneifion also witnessed the fall and acted as spotters to guide in the HM Coastguard rescue helicopter.

"An off duty RAF mountain rescue service member and her climbing partner made their way over to assist the winchman, and a team member was also winched down with a stretcher.

"Sadly, the casualty did not survive their injuries, and they were recovered from the mountain. The thoughts of all involved are with the casualty's family and friends."

This comes just days after a teenage girl died trying to retrieve her dog from a cliff edge after it chased after a rabbit.

Keeleigh Plant, 18, had taken her two pet cockapoo dogs for an afternoon walk with her boyfriend Oliver Griffiths when tragedy struck.

The dogs, named Bertie and Cooper, were off their leads at Hope Cove, south Devon, when they saw a wild rabbit and chased after it.

Coroner's officer Jim Stein told an inquest at Exeter Coroner's Court: "One of the dogs did not come back on command so Keeleigh ran after the dog and sadly fell off the side of the cliff."

She plunged 100 feet onto a rocky beach below and died from multiple injuries despite the best efforts of rescuers and people in the area to save her.
