One-year-old baby fighting for their life after being found injured in home – as woman, 20, and man, 25, charged

TWO people have been charged after a baby was left fighting for their life in hospital with "critical injuries".

Craig Neill, 25, and Amy Cave, 20, have been charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm, after the injured one-year-old baby was discovered on Monday afternoon in Darlington, County Durham.

They have been remanded in custody ahead of their appearance at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court today.

After emergency crews discovered the child at a home in the town, they were rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where they currently remain in a critical condition.

Durham Police confirmed that it had initially arrested a third person, a 24-year-old man, in connection with the child's welfare.

However, he has now been released on bail.

Cops explained Cave and Neill were charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm, following their arrests.

A spokesperson for Durham Police told The Sun: "Two people have been charged after a baby sustained critical injuries in Darlington.

"Police were called to an address shortly before 2pm on Monday, May 26.

"Paramedics also attended, and a one-year-old baby was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, with critical injuries.

"The baby remains in a critical condition and is continuing to receive treatment in hospital.

"Two men, aged 24 and 25, and a 20-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the incident.

"The woman and 25-year-old man have since been charged with causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

"They have been remanded in custody to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning (May 28).

"The 24-year-old man was released on bail."

Ambulance services were also deployed to the property, including a specialist paramedic.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed: "We received a call at 1.45pm on Monday 26 May to reports of a person unwell at a private address in Darlington. 

"We dispatched two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, and a clinical team leader to the scene."
