King Charles makes hilarious gaffe during chat with Clare Balding about BBC’s Coronation coverage

KING Charles yesterday asked TV’s Clare Balding what her role was in his Coronation — unaware she led the BBC’s commentary of the procession.
The King, 74, made the gaffe at a Buckingham Palace reception for those who took part in both May’s Coronation and the late Queen’s funeral in September last year.
Clare said: "There was no reason why they would know that, because of course they weren’t watching the television. But he said they did manage to watch it afterwards.”
Charles said his biggest Coronation regret was forgetting binoculars at the Windsor Castle concert as he could hardly make out performers such as Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.
Queen Camilla, 76, was also seen chatting to Leader of the Commons Penny Mordaunt, who won plaudits for carrying the 8lb Sword of State at the Westminster Abbey coronation.
Princess Anne and Prince Edward also joined the King and Queen at the palace yesterday for the 90-minute bash.

Speaking after the reception at the palace, TV host Clare revealed her own coronation gaffe which had millions of viewers watching the coverage in stitches.
She said: "I managed to say - which is a perfectly acceptable horsey phrase - that the Princess Royal had been very quickly mounted, and joined the procession.
I didn’t bat an eyelid at that. I didn’t even realise. When I got home, my partner Alice said, ‘You seem to have caused a bit of a stir!’ But that’s just the sort of thing that would make them [the royal family] all laugh."
