It's just as well Villa have that one man advantage because Brugge have spent most of the first half on the front foot.

But the signs are good for Diego Simeone's side so far.

Real have seen more of the ball but have been ponderous, while the hosts are playing with incredible energy and look to be on double speed compared to their rivals.

That could cost them if the tank runs out too early, but so far so good.

What a start we've had here.

Villa were taking a bit of a battering from a pumped up Brugge when the Belgians shot themselves in the foot.

Emi Martinez launched a 60-yard pass over the visitors defence and Marcus Rashford was off like a greyhound chasing a hare.

Poor Kyriani Sabbe did his best to halt him but grabbed him and then sent him toppling with a clip of his heels.

Ref Daniel Siebert reached for his red card and suddenly Villa's task looked a lot easier with Brugge reduced to 10 men.
