NICK ROCKETT powered home to win a thrilling Grand National at Aintree!

While in the following Dubai Cup later in the evening, Frankie Dettori on Mixto was beaten ON THE LINE by Hit Show.

The Willie Mullins' trained Nick Rockett won an emotional National, in tribute for the horse's late co-owner Sadie Andrews.

  • In pictures – a day at the races

This blog is now closing. Here's a reminder of the Grand National, with some of the best images of the day.

    Thanks for following us.

  • Mullins made history

Willie Mullins made history by not only training the top three finishers but also placing five horses in the top seven.

After watching his horses come in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th in the National, a visibly emotional Mullins stopped to speak to ITV.

After composing himself, Mullins said: “This is the summit for me – I don’t think anything can be better than this. I never thought it would happen, and here we are.”

Here are all of Mullins’ horses results:

    Nick Rockett – 1st place

    I Am Maximus – 2nd place

    Grangeclare West – 3rd place

    Horantzau d’Airy – 5th place

    Macdermott – 7th place

  • Animal rights group slam Grand National over Broadway’s fall

As reported earlier, Broadway Boy suffered a horrible fall at the 25th fence during the Grand National race.

Celebre D’Allen was another horse put into an ambulance after collapsing at the pulsating race.

Animal right groups were outraged over the incidents and slammed the event.

Ben Newman, of Animal Rising, told : “These horses deserve better.

“ITV’s cowardly refusal to replay the 25th fence where Broadway Boy fell, while commentators gushed over racing’s welfare standards, shows the depths to which the industry will sink to save itself.

“When the public sees the grim reality and suffering within horse racing, they rightfully recoil.”

  • Fergie's huge five-figure win revealed

Sir Alex Ferguson banged in an £80,000 winner on Merseyside – as he celebrated a stunning 1-3 on Grand National day.

The legendary Manchester United manager was unlucky in the big race itself, with his sole runner Hitman being pulled up

But he struck in the very next race courtesy of superstar horse Kalif Du Berlais.

  • 'He's home!' – Broadway Boy update

Willy Twiston-Davies, assistant trainer for Broadway Boy, has posted a picture of the horse on social media with the caption "he's home", following concerns about its wellbeing after a tumble at Aintree.

Broadway Boy was leading Saturday's racebut fell at the 25th fence, unseating rider Tom Bellamy and landing on its neck.

Immediate veterinary attention was required, and the horse was monitored throughout the night.

  • Cheltenham champion pulled from Grand National

Winner of the 2025 Cheltenham Gold Cup Inothewayurthinkin was withdrawn from the Grand National by trainer Gavin Cromwell and owner JP McManus.

They decided that, at seven years old, it might be too demanding for him to attempt both prestigious races in the same season.

Trainer Venetia Williams stated that L’Homme Presse had to be withdrawn too since there was not enough time to get him ready for the Grand National.

  • How much will Patrick Mullins receive for his win?

Nothing. On average, victorious jockeys in the Grand National pocket about 8% of the prize money, while those placed earn around 4%. This typically results in the winning jockey walking away from the event with a cheque for approximately £40,000.

However, Mullins won't receive a single penny for his winning ride this year. This is because the Irishman is registered as an amateur jockey and therefore does not earn a fee for riding.

  • TV gold

One of the greatest sights on Saturday was the moment the TV cameras zoomed in on Willie Mullins in the stands as his son, Patrick, 35, crossed the line with 33-1 outsider Nick Rockett to win the Grand National.

There was a puff of the cheeks on Mulllins Sr - then another, then a third. For a moment it looked as if he was hyperventilating – but it wasn't, just sheer pride in his son.

  • JICYMI

Nick Rockett sealed a fairytale Grand National win for Bradford-born Stewart Andrew - with his beloved late wife's favourite horse.

The Willie Mullins-trained monster ridden by amateur jockey and son Patrick saw off last year's winner I Am Maximus at huge odds of 33-1.

Andrew's wife Sadie died from cancer in December 2022 just days after seeing Nick Rockett's debut run - and mere weeks after being diagnosed.

He said after his horse's win: "Sadie would have loved this.

"She’s up there and she’ll have had a tenner each-way I can guarantee."

  • Fergie time

Sir Alex Ferguson banged in an £80,000 winner on Merseyside - as he celebrated a stunning 1-3 on Grand National day.

The iconic Manchester United manager was unlucky in the big race itself, with his sole runner Hitman being pulled up

But he struck in the very next race courtesy of superstar horse Kalif Du Berlais.

Sent off 15-8 under top jockey Harry Cobden for trainer Paul Nicholls, the crack 2m chaser could be called the winner a long way out.

And his win in the Grade 1 Maghull Novices' Chase was worth a cool £67,524.

While third-place L'Eau Du Sud, who went off the 5-4 fav under Harry Skelton, came third, netting a further £12,732.

That took earnings from the two horses - who Sir Alex owns with a few close personal friends - to a whopping £80,526.

  • Broadway Boy update

Trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies’ son Sam issued a positive update on his situation this morning.

He wrote in reply to people asking if the horse was safe.

Sam wrote: “He’s stiff and sore but all being well travelling home this morning.”

Sam's brother Willy then took to social media to confirm Broadway Boy was ready to return home.

He added: "Thank you for all the lovely messages, more importantly thanks to all the vets at @AintreeRaces.

"Broadway Boy is getting loaded onto the horse ambulance and coming home.

"Such a special horse to all of us at Grangehill farm. Big thanks to Laura who has stayed with him all night."

  • Grand National hit by mass of non-runners

Some 19 horses had been taken out of their respective races - with two huge Nicky Henderson favourites among those withdrawn.

Those who followed Henderson into yesterday's Mersey Novices' Hurdle were hurt as the odds-on fav was declared a non-runner, one of three in the race.

While his other top horse Jeriko Du Reponet, who had been favourite for the opening handicap hurdle, was also pulled.

Gordon Elliott pulled huge Liverpool Hurdle favourite Teahupoo out after he was a brave second in his Stayers' Hurdle defence last month.

Meanwhile, amateur jockey David Maxwell's El Cairos, who was favourite for the concluding bumper, was another non-runner.

He was one of five pulled from the final race of the day - the National Hunt Flat Race.

  • The Cheltenham champion pulled from Grand National

Winner of the 2025 Cheltenham Gold Cup Inothewayurthinkin was withdrawn from the Grand National by trainer Gavin Cromwell and owner JP McManus.
