THE World Snooker Championship is just around the corner as the world's best head to Sheffield.

Defending champion Kyren Wilson will be looking to retain his crown after winning the iconic tournament for the first time last year.

Should the Kettering cueist lift the World Championship trophy once again in May, he would break the 60-year-long Crucible curse.

Wilson will have to contend with some of the best talent in the land, which could potentially include seven-time winner Ronnie O'Sullivan.

The Rocket is scheduled to go up against bitter rival Ali Carter in the first round on Tuesday, April 22.

The seven-time Crucible winner, who has featured in the iconic competition every year since 1993, has pulled out of FIVE tournaments in 2025, which sparked doubt over his attendance in Sheffield.

Speaking exclusively to SunSport at the start of April, O'Sullivan revealed he was still undecided on whether he would compete in this year's tournament, he said: “I’ll make a decision when I feel like I’m ready to make a decision. That will be it.

“I know I have nothing to prove. But I was getting to the point where I was scared to even go near a table.

“Not even the match table, just a practice table. And that has been going on for a long time.

“I tried to play through it. I tried and I tried and I tried. I was getting no enjoyment out of it.

“Even that season when I won five tournaments, it was just hard. I couldn’t keep going on struggling.

“At some point you’ve got to try and enjoy the game. I can only enjoy it if I’m playing half decent.”

Since the interview, O'Sullivan has been seen at the table during his trip to his snooker academy in Saudi Arabia.

Footage showed that Rocket hasn't lost his touch, with him making a stunning 147 clearance for all to see.
