Tragedy as two drivers die on same day at separate UK racing events as cops probe crashes
TWO drivers have died in separate events on Saturday May 24.
Both drivers were competing in separate Motorsport UK races when the accidents occurred.
Julian Grimwade was competing in the Vintage Motorsport Festival at Donington Park on Saturday when the accident occurred.
Julian was driving an Oakland Romano Special when he crashed during the first lap.
He as Vice Chairman of Members at the Brookland Museum, and starred in the 2021 TV series Secrets of the Transport Museum.
National governing body Motorsport UK said: "Motorsport UK joins the entire UK motorsport community in mourning and sends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Julian, as well as the Vintage Sports Car Club."

They added: “As with all serious incidents, Motorsport UK will conduct an into the matter and cooperate with the relevant external authorities.”
A police spokesperson said: "Police were notified of a single vehicle collision at a licensed track day at Donington Park yesterday (24 May).
"The driver of the vehicle – a man in his 70s – was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
"Enquiries are continuing on behalf of HM Coroner. Identification of the deceased is a matter for the coroner."

Leicestershire Police confirmed that no criminal investigation was underway.
Driver also tragically passed away yesterday following a separate incident at the Jim Clark Rally.
The 39-year-old co-driver died at the scene of the crash in , while driver James Williams, 27, was hospitalised with serious injuries.
The event was promptly cancelled, along with Sunday's Jim Clark Reivers Rally, by the organisers Jim Clark Memorial Motor Club.
The Rally was previously stopped in 2014 after three people died, and it was cancelled again the following year.
Regarding the incident, Motorsport UK said: “Motorsport UK has initiated a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident and will work closely with the Jim Clark Rally event organisers and Jim Clark Memorial Motor Club and will cooperate with the relevant authorities."
Dai's younger brother, Gareth, died at the age of 24 after a racing accident in Italy in 2012.
