Primitivo powers home for King and Twiston-Davies
Victory in the King George V Stakes resulted in great scenes of joy in the winners enclosure for all connections
PRIMITIVO gave Willy Twiston-Davies and Alan King a day to remember at Ascot.
His victory in the King George V Stakes was the first Royal Ascot victory for both jockey and trainer and made sure the pair would be celebrating for a while.
Despite drifting at the finish Twiston-Davies mount had plenty left in the tank and won in style - giving his jockey enough time to celebrate as he crossed the line.
The winning rider received a huge welcome and said: "I can't believe it. All I can do is thank Alan King and the owner. I'm delighted. It's brilliant I can finally deliver on the big stage. I might start crying in a minute!"
King added: "I love this place and I love my Flat racing. It's very special. It's been an ambition of mine to have a winner at Royal Ascot. I adore the place. I've been coming for the best part of 30 years.
"We've not had many runners. We were second in this race with Salsalino and I thought we'll come back one day and never quite believed it.
"We've had some awfully big offers for this horse, but we turned them down to come here."
