Hugo Palmer set to saddle runners in the Melbourne Cup and Breeders’ Cup

Palmer's Wall Of Fire is heading for the Melbourne Cup while Home Of The Brave and Unforgetable Filly have a trip to America on the agenda

HUGO PALMER is on the hunt for international glory in the coming weeks.

Palmer is set to send four of his star horses abroad and is set to have runners in Australia and America.

Leading the quartet is Wall Of Fire who is set to run in the Melbourne Cup.

Palmer admitted: “It’s all a little bit daunting, I have to say.

"He flew on Thursday and I hope both he and Mask Of Time travel well. They have got two more weeks in quarantine on the other side of the world before their main targets, which is exciting.

“Wall Of Fire has become a bit of a buzz horse in Melbourne, actually. He’s much shorter in the Melbourne markets than he is in the British markets for the race.

"His main achievement, of course, is going to be to actually getting into the race and he is not guaranteed yet, although he is qualified.

“I think the fast ground, the two-mile trip and his turn of foot will be ideally suited to the race, I am really excited and whether he runs beforehand we will just have to see.”

“Mask Of Time is a new recruit to the yard from Andre Fabre. The plan with him is to head out to the Toorak handicap, which is a Group 1 handicap at Caulfield on the 14th of October.

"I saw him off on his way and he looked absolutely tremendous.”

As well as having his eye on Australian glory, Palmer will also send the duo of Home Of The Brave and Unforgetable Filly out to America for the upcoming Breeders’ Cup.

Palmer added: “We’ll hopefully have a two-pronged attack on the Breeders’ Cup.

Templegate's Treble

NAP 3.10 Bath - Jim Rockford: 'The longer distance should help him step forward again and he looks progressive'

NEXT BEST 2.40 Bath - Her Terms: 'She's a fresh filly and the return to softer ground shouldn't be a problem'

TREBLE 3.50 Newton Abbot - Scales: 'Ran Petrou close when last seen and has a good record after a break'

“Home of the Brave is firmly on course for the Breeders’ Cup Mile. I think the mile at Del Mar, with the tight turns will really suit him.

"We just need to be lucky with our draw and he could be very dangerous on the front end of a race like that.

“He ran in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint last year and it was just the wrong race at the wrong time. He’s done precious little wrong this season.

"The ground was just a little bit loose and a bit tacky and dead at Doncaster last time. He did nothing wrong he was just beaten by a couple of horses who handled the ground better than him.

“He loves that American fast ground, he’s been out there and trained on it last year and we’re really looking forward to having another go.”

“Unforgetable Filly is going to have a trial run in America first. She probably wouldn’t be getting into the Fillies and Mares’ Turf at the moment but she heads to the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Trophy at Keeneland on the 14th of October, which is a race we were third in last year, beaten a head and a short head, with Hawksmoor.

"f she does win that race, it’s a “Win And You’re In” race for the Breeders’ Cup, so she’d join Home of the Brave on the team sheet for Del Mar.”
