Sony announces major update on plan to delete some PlayStation purchases – but users say it ‘doesn’t solve the issue’
PLAYSTATION owners can keep digital content they bought after all following a massive backlash.
Gamers were shocked to receive an email at the beginning of December stating that some of their purchases would disappear at the end of the year even though they'd paid for them - and with no offer of a refund.
Any TV shows you'd previously bought from Warner Bros Discovery were affected due to the end of a content licensing agreement.
Mythbusters, Say Yes to the Dress, and Naked and Afraid are among the popular shows produced by the US media giant.
But Sony and Warner Bros Discovery have reached a new agreement so shows will no longer disappear - at least for now.
"Similar to other services, we do not own the licensing rights to TV/movie content that was previously available for purchase on PlayStation Store," Sony told .

"However, we’ve worked with Warner Bros to update our licensing agreements, ensuring that consumers will be able to access their previously purchased content for at least the next 30 months."
That means users still won't be able to keep their purchases forever.
But they'll now have until June 30, 2026.
The announcement is only a temporary sigh of relief for PlayStation owners and highlights the danger of losing digital items even if you've paid for them.

"While that’s good, that doesn’t solve the issue that Sony has total control over the content we purchase," one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"There’s no such thing as media ownership any more."
Another said: "30 months really isn't that long."
A third wrote: "30 months is laughable and only a bandaid."
Sony stopped selling digital movies and TV shows on the PlayStation Store in 2021.
And this isn't the first time it's happened either.
Last year, movies and shows from Studio Canal were removed permanently with no reprieve.
It comes amid cuts at Warner Bros Discovery and some huge projects being dropped - notably Batgirl, despite already completing shooting.
