‘Looks like it could soon be the end’ gamers fear as retailer with over 240 stores is ‘set to shutdown beloved service’

HIGHSTREET chain Game will no longer allow customers to trade in physical video games from next month, according to reports.
The high-street staple announced the closing of a handful of stores just weeks ago.
Game is expected to retire its long-running video game trade-in facility on 16 February, Eurogamer first reported, citing staff.
The remaining pre-owned stock will be sold until the supply runs dry.
This means that if you have some pre-loved games that you want to swap for other titles, you have about a month left to do so.
But fans reckon the move could act as the death knell for the 32-year-old video game chain.
"This looks like it could soon be the end of game," one onlooker on X (formerly Twitter).
"Used to be so much better 12-15 years ago. Digital games, price increases and uncompetitive prices have killed it."
Another : "With a lot of gamers going all digital and some big new releases not even coming out as a physical copy (Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2), Game are now little more than glorified toy shops sadly."
Frasers Group-owned Game currently trades from more than 240 locations across the UK, after recent store closures.

Despite losing a number of standalone stores, the retail chain has gained concessions inside other Frasers-owned outlets such as Sports Direct and House of Fraser.
A third onlooker : "I think a lot of their stores have moved inside Sports Direct now.
"Their trade-in prices were absolutely rubbish anyway, they’re expensive and they never actually have anything in stock in the stores."
CeX will then be one of the only brick and mortar video game trade-in sites on high streets - which is good for now, but many fear will be negative in the long term.
A fourth gamer "CeX has had better trade-in prices for years, this is just another nail in the coffin for Game."
Although, another "But when CeX becomes the only player (barring a few indies) in the game, their trade in prices will go right down."
The Sun has contacted Game for comment.
