Tim Cook said the software has been "turned up to 11" with a range of cool new features.

It includes major changes to Apple Pay and Messages as well as the Camera and Photos apps.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, said “iOS 11 gives iPad users the powerful app functionality they need to take advantage of everything iPad is capable of and brings hundreds of new features and incredible updates to the iOS apps iPhone and iPad users enjoy every day."

Apple Pay has undergone a massive overhaul which makes it possible to person-to-person payments, meaning it could potentially replace Paypal.

Pay will be built into iMessage so you can transfer cash by simply sending a text message.

Siri has been given a new personality, with a refined voice which comes in two genders.

It also features translation so you can speak a command and it will translate it and read it back in a different language.

You'll be able to use Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish.

Siri is now more intelligent and will learn from your behaviour and show you news stories or other content it thinks you might like.

So if you've shown used Safari to search for Iceland, Siri will use machine learning to show you news stories about the country.

It will even know you're likely to use words like Rekyavik in your texts or emails, so will automatically refine its spellcheck to make sure you've spelt it properly.

Apple users now take one TRILLION photos per year, Apple announced.

The new operating system will come with an improved Photos app which allows you to edit the cool moving "Live Photos" using "Loop and Bounce" effects.

Photo files will also be smaller due to Apple's new "High Efficiency Image File Format" syste.

Maps has been extended with detailed maps of shopping malls in major cities including London as well as major airports.

It will also show you the speed limit in an area you're driving through and tell you what lane to get into before you make a turn.

CarPlay will also stop you receiving messages when you're driving using a "Do Not Disturb" mode.

The Apple Music app has been given new social functionality to let you know what friends are listening to.

The new version of iOS also comes with a new Control Centre and Notifications Centre.

Apple iOS 11 will be released to the public later in the year, but is already available in "beta" form to developers, programmers and other professionals.
