FACEBOOK is adding a karaoke option that lets you share live lips sync videos to hit songs new and old.

The feature is bundled in with the social network's Live video function that less you share real-time clips that your mates or the public can interact with using comments and likes.

Facebook's "Lip Sync Live" will let you sing along to recent smash hits like Drake's God's Plan, Ed Sheeran's Happier, Camilla Cabello's Havana and jukebox jams such as Guns N' Roses' Welcome to the Jungle, among others.

And this being Facebook, you'll be able to don an augmented reality selfie mask (in the vein of Snapchat's Lenses) or add colourful background graphics to spruce up your renditions.

How to use Facebook's new Lip Sync Live feature

Lip Sync Live is currently rolling out in select markets, so you may not immediately see it in the Facebook app.

To find out if you have it, tap the compose status field at the top of your News Feed.

Then select the "Go Live" option with the red camera icon in front of it.

Next tap the new Lip Sync Live function and select a tune from the song list – you can also add a description to your post.

A sticker displaying the artist name and song title will then be automatically added to your broadcast, allowing users to tap to follow the musician on Facebook.

But there doesn't seem to be an option to download or stream the original song on services like Spotify or Apple Music and iTunes.

The move is part of Facebook's major push into music licensing, having recently inked a deal with Warner Music Group.

And sure enough, the social network will soon let you add a soundtrack to any video (both live and pre-recorded) on its platform.

"From weddings and holidays to everyday celebrations, the special moments in life are often ones we associate with music," said the company in a , hinting at the type of clips that would benefit from a musical medley.

The Lips Sync Live video option, however, is a clear grab at rival Musical.ly's karaoke empire.

Never heard of the app? Then you're probably not a teen.

Musical.ly's been kicking around for almost four years now and more than 60 percent of its 100 million user base is aged between 13 and 20, according to .

That's an age group that's ditching Facebook in their droves for video-oriented apps like YouTube and Snapchat.

And Lip Sync Live could be the social network's last ditch attempt to win teens back.

It's just a shame then that it's integrated into one of the most controversial features ever released by Facebook.

The company's Live Video function has repeatedly come under fire for allowing violent and extremist clips to be broadcasted to the world, including suicides and shootings.

For its part, Facebook claims it's upping its human moderation team (tasked with policing its main social network) to 20,000 people this year.

They'll be backed up by the firm's algorithms, which scour the site for objectionable material.
