A happy ending for EastEnders’ Pam and Les as they head off into the sunset? Surely, not…

It’s a brave person who predicts a happy ending for anyone in Albert Square, but as Pam and Les prepare to say their goodbyes, life does finally seem to be treating them a little better.
Blackmailer Babe has paid them back all their money, Diane has persuaded her killer son Simon to plead guilty and Les’ alter ego Christine has become a part of their lives.
Now all they desperately need is the court to hand out a sentence that will reflect the tragic loss of Paul’s life and the devastation it has caused for the Coker family.
As Pam and Les start to pack up their things, word reaches them that the sentencing has been delayed until Tuesday, and they tell Ben they can’t bear to go back to the court – they need to move on. For all their talk of new beginnings, there are still strong ties to their past.
Monday would have been the birthday of their dead son, Lawrie, and as they remember him and then receive news from the court, Pam and Ben share a heartfelt conversation.
As the Cokers’ final day in Walford approaches, Les has one last twinge of doubt over whether they’re doing the right thing, but Pam strengthens his resolve.
She then takes Paul’s clothes to a homeless shelter – where there’s one last shock waiting for her – before the locals surprise the couple with a few drinks in The Vic. Will they get their happy ever after?
OVER TO YOU, BILLY
Possessing a face that looks like death warmed up is a good place to start for any prospective funeral director.
It always looked like Les could croak at any minute and his successor Billy has that one-foot-in-the-grave demeanour down to a T.
All the same, there are a few teething issues as Billy takes over the reins (well, coffins) and, for a moment, Les wonders if he might have made a terrible mistake. Not least because Billy himself can’t quite believe he’s going to be left in charge of proceedings at Coker & Sons.
Always good in a crisis, Claudette weighs in with some very sound advice – Billy needs to let the staff know who their boss is now. Is he about to break the habit of a lifetime?
STEVEN’S FEELINGS GET HURT
Usually when there’s an elephant in the room, that elephant isn’t on the other side of the world.
Still, things are rarely simple when it comes to Lauren and her love life (remember cousin Joey?), so when Steven takes a video of Louie saying “Dada” and Lauren decides she wants to send it to her ex-lover Peter in New Zealand, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife.
It actually takes someone from outside their strange little family bubble to make Lauren see that this might not be the best idea ever.
And when Lauren talks to Steven, he explains exactly how he feels about little Louie…
